Pfc Mark Fernald
In Memoriam
Mark was born in 1932 in San Diego, Ca. to Clifford and Emma May Fernald. The following year, the family moved to the southern coast of Oregon. They settled in a very remote, heavily forested area about 12 miles southeast of Port Orford, called Middle Elk. In the early 1930’s, Clifford built a house for the family in Middle Elk and more brothers soon came along. The weather along the southern Oregon coast was wet and overcast much of the time. When the sun did shine, the boys were thrilled to play outside and it was photo time.
