Pfc Mark Fernald
In Memoriam
Mark joined the ROTC and graduated from San Diego High School in 1949. After graduation, Mark’s uncle, Austin Ayers, became Mark’s mentor. Austin was prominent in the construction industry and helped Mark train to become a heavy equipment operator. During this period, Mark, his mother, and the rest of the brothers moved to Julian, Ca. Mark spent his time working for Austin on different construction projects and helping his mother look after his younger brothers. Mark was drafted into the Army and sent to Korea in 1952.
